Diagnosis Original diagnosis by Ehlers (1908): ''Lang fadenförmig, gleichmäßig gegliedert; Kopflappen mit unpaarem Scheitelfühler. Parapodien mit dorsalen und ventralen Höckern, mit einfachen Capillarborsten und in den hinteren Segmenten mit Nadeln, mit einfachen Rückencirren und in beschränkter Zahl vorderer Segmente mit dorsalen Kiemen.'' [details]
Etymology Not stated in the original description. The generic epithet is composed by the combining form cirro-, meaning 'filament' or 'tendril', followed by the New Latin word phorus, from the Greek phoros and meaning 'bearing' or 'carrying', referring presumably to the presence of simple dorsal cirri on the type species.
