Diagnosis Original diagnosis by Horst (1910: 174): "Branchiae bipinnate like as in Chloeia; first pair, on the fifth body-segment, much larger than those of the following ones. Eyes absent. Ventral bristles along the inner border coarsely denticulated." [details]
Etymology Not stated in the original description. The name of the genus is composed by the Greek prefix bathos-, meaning 'deep', and the name of the genus Chloeia Lamarck, 1818, presumably to highlight the fact that the new genus is a deep sea form close to Chloeia. [details]
