Synonymy Johnston (1865:165) included H. paradoxa Örsted, 1843 as a synonym of Heteronereis longissima (Johnston, 1840) [originally as Nereis longissima], and Malmgren placed it as a synonym of his new combination, Eunereis longissima. It is unclear if Malmgren or Johnston, both published in 1865, first made this synonymy, but perhaps it was Johnston as he doesn't cite Malmgren and his book was delayed in publication by his death until early 1865.
