Aus der Ausbeute der deutschen Tiefsee-Expedition mit der „Valdivia‟ erhielt ich eine umfangreiche Sammlung von Borstenwürmern, deren Bearbeitung die folgenden Blätter enthalten. In der bei weitem größten Menge waren es bodensässige Tiere, nur vereinzelt fanden sich dazwischen pelagische Anneliden; sie blieben unberücksichtigt, da die planktonischen Würmer einem anderen Bearbeiter zugewiesen waren. Nur in zwei Fällen sind schwimmend erbeutete Polychaeten hier in die Bearbeitung mit aufgenommen; die epitoke Form einer Nereis-Art, Nereis lucipeta, da sie nur vorübergehend planktonisch auftritt, und eine Polynoine, Herdmanella gracilis n. sp., die im Plankton erbeutet ist, von der es aber zweifelhaft sein kann, ob sie dauernd der Schwebefauna angehört.
