Grube did not appear to know about N. fasciata Bosc when he (Grube, 1873: 69) wrote informally that "N. fasciata Ehrb. Gr, […] since there is already a Heteronereis fasciata Schmd. from Jamaica, [ought] to be renamed N. Hemprichii. [details]

Authority Grube 1870 is the sole author, although Ehrenberg's name was included in the heading by Grube as "N. fasciata Ehrb.. Gr.". This is a courtesy addition by Grube as the samples held in the Berlin Museum had been collected by Ehrenberg and Hemprich 40 years previously as Grube explains. It is not possible that Ehrenberg wrote the species description, and at best Grube might have had field notes or label notes of Ehrenberg.
