Status Aphrodita paleacea Peters 1864 has priority over Aphrodita australis Baird, 1865 but Hutchings & McRae (1993: 290) proposed retaining the widely used Aphrodita australis. Aphrodita paleacea has not been used since the original description. A proposal that A. australis be retained under Article 79c of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature 1985 (third Edition) was intended but was evidently never submitted to the Commission.
