Depth range Shore. [details]
Distribution Philippine Islands (Camiguin Island) and Western Caroline Islands (Palau, Babeldaob Island). [details]
Etymology The specific epithet flaccida is a Latin form meaning 'flaccid' or 'loose', and refers to the flaccidity or floppiness of the body of the specimens. [details]
Habitat On the shore, between stones and coral blocks. [details]
Type locality Philippine Islands (Camiguin Island) and Western Caroline Islands (Palau, Babeldaob Island, 'Aibuhit').
Normally it is considered that Aibuhit is located in Philippines, but Grube (1878: III) clearly states "Ausser den Philippinen kommt noch Aibuhit auf Bahaltaub, einer der Palaos-Inseln (westlichen Karolinen, Pelews der Engländer) in Betracht" ('Apart from the Philippines comes into consideration Aibuhit on Bahaltaub, one of Palau Islands (Western Carolines, English Pelews)'). Bahaltaub (= Babelthuap or Babeltaob) refers to today's Babeldaob Island, while it is not clear to which contemporary location refers Aibuhit (maybe Aimellik?; after Semper's visit the Palau Islands were administrated by Germany, Japan, and the United States before gaining full sovereignty, so probably many toponyms changed). [details]
Type material Grube (1878) refers the collection of 4 specimens from Aibuhit (maybe Aimellik?; Palau Islands) and Camiguin (Philippines). Wiktor (1980) refers 4 syntypes deposited at the MPW, with reference No. 394, collected at Aibuhit and Camiguin. Posteriorly Licher (1999) and Aguado et al (2008) refer the existence of 3 syntypes deposited at the MPW (reference No. 394) and 2 additional syntypes deposited at the ZMB (reference Verm. Q 4395), all collected at Aibuhit and Camiguin. This way, it is difficult to know if each of the lots of syntypes is from a different location, or if both lots include specimens from Palau and Philippines. [details]
