Etymology There is no etymology for Dasychone orientalis, but oriental (eastern) is a geographic adjective reference to SE Asia. It is a frequently used species-group adjective with over 1700 'orientalis' names in WoRMS. 'Orientale' is the neuter form adjective and there are 218 orientale species names [details]
Type locality Offshore of Hong Kong, in 10 fathoms. There is no Challenger station data, no geolcation data, no collection date in McIntosh's text, although it is known the Challenger did visit Hong Kong in December 1874. Whereas the following species, D. japonica was collected at Station 233A off Japan and has a geolocation and date (May 1875) given. [details]
Type specimen 1885.12.1.393, The Natural History Museum, London. The BMNH specimen photo shows four incomplete specimens, therefore these are syntypes. [details]
