Nomenclature Unavailable pre-Linnaean name, but subsequent usages and synonymy lists link this name to Sabella penicillus (Linnaeus) and perhaps Sabella spallanzanii, and also to genus name Penicillus Guettard, 1770. However, Knight-Jones & Perkins (1997:393) regarded the taxon as indeterminable. [details]
Type locality Not a type locality as such, but Rondelet reported the worm from Lerinum Island. This refers to the Lérins Islands (les Îles de Lérins), a group of four Mediterranean islands off the French Riviera, near Cannes [details]
