Taxonomy Pleijel 1998 appears not to reassign this name from Castalia, as type material is not available. Castalia is invalid. [details]
Type locality Castalia fusca var. hibernica was collected at 24 fathoms in Clew Bay, Northern Island. Southern explains that he called Clew Bay the area of open water east of a line joining Achill Head to Inishark. Clew Bay is very large but a general geolocation is 53.833 N, -9.8 W. Southern names the benthic station as W.84. Possibly this station is mapped in one of the Clare Island Survey reports. [details]
