Spelling It is not possible to present this name in WoRMS in the same form that Dalyell used. Dalyell (1853) named this species, now considered as not different from Lanice conchilega, in a non-Linnaean three-word form as "Terebella littoralis seu arenaria" ('seu' means 'or' in Latin), and later he states "This species, the Terebella littoralis or arenaria, is thus named from the place of its abode, and the materials of its architecture. It must not be confounded with the Terebella conchilega or shell binder, which dwells in deep water, and from which it may readily be distinguished, first, externally by the materials of its tube ; next, the different configuration of the branchiae and general appearance."
