Status Banse (1977) reduced Knox and Cameron's Notophycidae to a subfamily in Nereididae and placed Notophycus as a synonym of Micronereis. Fitzhugh (1987) included Micronereis in Nereidinae, effectively synonymizing Notophycinae into Nereidinae (fide Bakken & Wilson (2005)). Note that Banse's title is misleading as he did not create a new subfamily. He reduced in rank an existing family to a subfamily. Knox and Cameron's family already in principle existed as a subfamily name. [details]
