Description Up to now, two species were described by Melnikova 1975 and 1987: A. dronovi and A. karapetovi, the second one differing from the type species in smaller number of septa per calice and in protocorallite similar in diameter to other calices. [details]

Comparison From Astraeomorpha Reuss, 1854, the genus differs in 2-4 times larger diameters of trabeculae, pennular septal ornamentation and thick columella. The genus differs from Thamnasteriamorpha Melnikova, 1971 (type species: Thamnastraea frechi Volz, 1896) in its originally pennular septal micromorphology. Diagnosis Colonial, thamnasterioid, budding mostly circumoral. Radial elements costoseptal. Mid-septal zone with more or less individualized centers of 100-200 μm in diameter. Trabeculae vertical at corallite periphery, while at inner edges inclined to corallite centers. Lateral septal micromorphology pennular with a tendency to form menianes; pennulae distributed symmetrically on septal sides. Columella styliform. Dissepiments vesicular, abundant. [details]
