Homonymy Tovar-Hernández et al (2020) have a mistaken crediting of a Pseudopotamilla polyophthalmos (Grube) usage to Langerhans as an original name, and regarding it as a homonym. The Langerhans usage is of Grube's name.
Sabella (Potamilla) polyophthalmos Grube 1878 was downgraded by Langerhans to a variety of Sabella (Potamilla) reniformis (Bruguière, 1789), thus Sabella (Potamilla) reniformis polyophthalmos . However, Tovar-Hernández et al (2020: 48) misinterpret this usage as a new name proposed by Langerhans, and present it in a current combination as Pseudopotamilla polyophthalmos (Langerhans, 1884), which thus would be a secondary homonym to Grube's species. However, Langerhans clearly states (in approx translation) "Grube has an example of the species from the Philippines therefore [because of more eyes] believed to be separate from reniformis, That hardly seems necessary to me; it is probably enough this eye richer form be recognized as a variety". Langerhans creates a name, but it is a new combination for Grube's name, downgraded in rank, not a new taxon. [details]
