Type species Type species Cylicobdella lumbricoides. Sawyer (186: 680) lists Cylicobdella joseensis (Grube, 1859) as type species of Cylicobdella, but this is incorrect. A species name, if it is at any time considered to be a synonym, does not then stop being a type species name because of that subjective opinion. [details]
Status Currently Cylicobdella Grube, 1871 is regarded as a valid genus. However, it is a junior synonym of Centropygos Grube, 1859...
Status Currently Cylicobdella Grube, 1871 is regarded as a valid genus. However, it is a junior synonym of Centropygos Grube, 1859 according to Blanchard (1917) and Ringuelet (1948). Those authors thought that Centropygos needed to be replaced by Cylicobdella for homonymy, but they were wrong. Centropygos Grube 1859 is not a junior homonym (see the note under Centropygos) [G Read October 2022]. [details]
