Distribution Spiophanes australis occurs in the Argentine Basin in the SW Atlantic Ocean at about 4600 m. "The species probably also occurs in more southerly waters" [details]
Etymology Authors: Spiophanes australis "Latin (=southern); refers to the known distribution of the species in soft bottom habitats of the South Atlantic Ocean and probably also in adjacent Antarctic waters (Weddell Sea)." [details]
