Harmful effect One strain of P. punctionis from Chinese waters has been found to produce domoic acid with a content of 13.5-17.7 fg/cell [details]

Identification P. punctionis is similar to P. subpacifica and bipertita because of 1) two rows of poroids in each stria; 2) densities of fibulae (14-18 in 10 µm) and interstriae (25-29 in 10 m) are similar THey differ in valve width, valvocopula structure and details related to the poroids [details]
