Etymology ‘Mithril’, meaning ‘grey glitter’ in Sindarin (Tolkien 1954), a fictional silvery metal. Named in allusion to the silvery colouration and sheen of the periostracum in comparison to other congeners, used as a noun in apposition. [details]
