The lower part of the Early Cretaceous shallow marine deposits in the eastern Ahl Medo Range (Bosaso, northern Somalia) is characterized by three associations of orbitolinid foraminifers (from bottom to top): (1) Valserina transiens n.sp., (2) Palorbitolina lenticularis (Blumenbach), (3) Dictyoconus arabicus Henson and Palorbitolina lenticularis. This sequence of associations indicating a Late Barremian age is identical with that one in the central Oman Mountains. Valserina transiens n.sp. is regarded as the phylogenetic link between the genus Valserina and the Palorbitolina lenticularis group.
