A study of unusually well-preserved specimens from the upper surface of a turbidite sandstone layer indicates the tubular agglutinated foraminifer described by Grzybowski (1898) as Dendrophrya excelsa must be transferred to the genus Nothia. The autecology of this common species is interpreted as a surface-dwelling detritivore.
