Examination of planktic foraminifers from the Upper Cretaceous Selma Group of Dallas and Wilcox Counties, Alabama, resulted in the establishment of seven new species (Heterohelix sphenoides, H. stenopus, Pseudoguembelina costellifera, P. polypleura, Schackoina sellaeforma, Globotruncana lunaris, and G. pustulifera) and one new name (Pseudotextularia browni) for Pseudotexularia plummerae (Loetterle). A neotype for Hedbergella delrioensis (Carsey) is selected. Considerable taxonomic and morphologic confusion has existed around Pseudotextularia, Planoglobulina, and Ventilabrella since their establishment. These genera are redefined, and a new genus, Platystaphyla is proposed in order to resolve these problems.
