[contributed precis] Moore discusses critically the taxonomy of the 30 species and varieties of freshwater leeches which appeared in Verrill's "Synopsis of North American Freshwater Leeches" (1874). The original descriptions have been analysed and compared with those of his types which survived and with other material. Several nomenclatural changes are proposed.
