A species belonging to a new genus of sedentary polychaetous annelid close to the family Flabelligeridae have been discovered, in the frame work of an ecological study of the abyssal zone of the Gulf of Biscay. By numerous morphological characteristics, Chauvinelia biscayensis gen. sp. nov. also approximates to a small family recently erected, the Fauveliopsidae. In the meantime, the exact phyletic relationships of this strange genus are difficult to establish.
