Distribution Endemic to Japan. Northernmost record from Hakodate, southern Hokkaidō. Large distribution gap between southern Aomori and northern Fukushima prefectures on the
Pacific coast of the Tōhoku District. It is not known from the subtropical Nansei Islands. Korean records may be a different species. No reliable records from China including Taiwan; specimens illustrated in the Chinese literature are not this species but S. cumingii. [details]
