A new species of Sabellariidae (Annelida, Polychaeta), Lygdamis wirtzi, is described, based on material from Madeira and Canary Islands, northeastern Atlantic Ocean. The specimens were collected from sandy bottom at 7 to 14 m depth. The new species is characterised by the shape of the inner and outer paleae and of the nuchal books.
