The species, Amphipolydora vestalis sp. nov. is described from northern New Zealand. A. vestalis is the second species described for the genus. A. vestalis is a sponge borer, inhabiting blind‐ending mud tubes within the sponge, Callyspongia cf. ramosa. Numerous individuals (tens to hundreds) were found in all C. cf. ramosa specimens examined, along with low numbers of the sponge borer Boccardia androgyna. Sexually reproductive individuals and egg strings containing embryos and nurse eggs (i.e., adelphophagy) were found concurrent with asexual individuals that reproduced by architomy.
