Editor's comment The station 109 of the Siboga Expedition where the 2 specimens of Haplosyllides aberrans were collected is normally stated to be 'Anchorage off Pulu Tongkil, Sulu Archipelago, 6º04'N, 121º45'E, 13 m'. 'Pulu' is a miswriting of 'Pulau', and means 'island' in several languages of the region. Anchorage does not refer to any toponym, but to where the ship Siboga did anchorage the June 5-6, 1899. This way the locality can be referred to as 'off Tongkil Island, Sulu Archipelago, 6º04'N, 121º45'E'. Tongkil can be also written as Tongquil. Finally, while the biggest part of the samples of the Siboga Expedition were collected in a region that forms the modern Indonesia, the Sulu Archipelago is part of The Philippines. [details]
Habitat On sandy substrates, together with sponges and gorgonians (but not found associated with them), between 13-50 m. One specimen found attached to a pleopod of a specimen of Galaxea astreata (Lamarck, 1816), collected at 2-3 m, but it seems to be an accidental attachment, not the result of a symbiotic association. Type material Martin et al (2009) state erroneously that the specimen MNHN TYPE 1497 is a paratype of the species. The specimen was collected only in 2003, much later than the description of the species (1939). [details]
