This paper reports the occurrence of the copepod Lernanthropus rathbuni parasitizing coró, Pomadasys corvinaeformis, in coastal waters of Rio Grande do Norte State, Brazil. One hundred and fifty five specimens of this marine fish were collected in the period from March, 2001 to June, 2002, out of which 107 fish during the rainy season (MarchAugust) and 48 fish during the dry season (September-February). Under necropsy twenty-seven fish were found to be parasitized by L. rathbuni, and presented a prevalence of 17.4 % and a mean infection intensity of 13.02. The preferred spot for fixation were the gills (97.56%) and the tegument (2.44%). The maximum number of parasites occurred in females during the rainy season. Key words: parasite copepod, Lernanthropus rathbuni, host fish, Pomadasys corvinaeformis, coastal zone, Rio Grande do Norte State.
