Etymology Named 'gabriellae' after Gabriella P. Zuccari, who collected the shelly sand, in which Saccocirrus gabriellae was found, from tide- pools between rocks from the beach of Guaruja near Santos. [details]

Neotype Justification for the neotype of Di Domenico et al. (2014): "No type material was designated in the original description of Pharyngocirrus gabriellae (Du Bois-Reymond Marcus 1946), a necessary procedure for the formal definition of a species (Article75, ICZN). Some of the original material may still remain at the Zoological Museum of São Paulo and Zoological Museum of Natural History of Montevideo, but deposit numbers were not provided and so the collections related to the original material cannot be searched unequivocally. No further records of P. gabriellae from the type locality are available. Our sampling at the type locality did not yield specimens of P. gabriellae, possibly as a consequence of the anthropogenic modifications at the beach in the past 70 years. A neotype for the species, collected at Araçá Bay (São Sebastião), 200km from the type locality is herein formally erected." Neotype a male, 6.0 mm long (whole mount ZUEC-Pol 14053), Araçá Bay, São Sebastião, São Paulo, Brazil (23°48'56.05"S, 45°24'31.51"W). Type material is deposited at the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade Estadual de Campinas “Adão José Cardoso”, Brazil [details]
