Syntype USNM 417, geounit Massachusetts [details]
From editor or global species database
Depth range Shallow water. [details]
Distribution Northwest Atlantic: Newfoundland to Massachusetts. [details]
Editor's comment Faulwetter et al. (2008) described Streptosyllis nunezi with base on specimens from the Mediterranean and Canary Islands, some of which had been previously identified as Streptosyllis arenae. This, together with the fact that both species are very similar, renders the presence of S. arenae in the European waters as doubtful. [details]
Etymology The specific epithet arenae is the genitive of the Latin word arena, meaning 'sand', and refers to the habitat where the species was collected, sand in low water. [details]
Habitat Infralittoral sand, in gulfs and estuaries. [details]
Type locality Northwest Atlantic, USA, Massachusetts, Cape Cod Bay, Provincetown (geocoordinates not provided, estimated with gazetteer to be approximately lat. 42.0463°, long. -70.1879º). [details]From other sources
Bioclimatic category tempearte-cold [details]
