Checklist
Search CaRMS and WoRMS distribution notes for Canadian areas of interest.
To create a checklist of names simply choose an area illustrated below or use the option at the bottom of the page to select a different area. This checklist tool will output a list of all taxonomic names associated with the defined area. These lists can be downloaded by clicking the [download results] button. You may wish to run the list through the taxmatch feature to obtain associated information such as classification.
If you wish to compile a list of invasive species for this area; or list endangered species (or flag these in the regular list) then check "Flags" on the download page.
Please be aware that these lists are compiled from notes extracted from authoritative sources such as publications. Compilation of these notes is ongoing and therefore the lists are not complete. A list of the source material referenced is accessible under the literature tab. CaRMS checklists and distribution notes focus on the Canadian area of interest. The figure below shows the extent of the area of interest used by Canadian oceanographic databases (35-90N latitude, 40-180W). For our register of species project we have subdivided this area into three major regions: the Atlantic, the Arctic and the Pacific. We have chosen FAO areas to define these regions (see below).
