Taxonomy Guille (1974, 1975) states that all seven of hsi specimens from Kerguelen-the type locality of P. affinis-'correspond perfectly with the descriptions of Perrier and Fisher' (of P. lebruni from the Falkland/Magellan region) but inexplicably uses the subspecific name affinis lebruni rather than treating lebruni as a synonym of affinis, as this conclusion merits.

Also, Downey in Clark & Downey (1992) doubts the distinctness of any subspecies, so the inference is that at least lebruni must be a synonym of affinis, not a subspecies. [details]
