Classification Leaena was included in tribe Terebellini by Stiller et al (2020). Previously Holthe (1986) had placed it in tribe Amphitritini. At the time its parent subfamily was Amphitritinae, the name incorrectly used for what is now Terebellinae. [details]Editor's comment There has been some past confusion in the WoRMS records, now corrected, because of the similarity of names of Leaena abranchiata Malmgren (type of the genus) and Leaena ebranchiata (originally Terebella ebranchiata), which is regarded as its senior subjective synonym. Malmgren's name was described as new, and was not a misspelling usage of Sars' name, of which he was probably unaware. [details]
