Nomenclature Delle chiaje transferred his Nereis squamosa to Polynoe where apparently he thought it was a secondary homonym (it wasn't - squamata is not the same as squamosa), so it appears that was why he (silently) renamed it Polynoe astericola. Or possibly he simply wanted more appropriate name. Claparede transferred both names to the new genus, Acholoe. Pettibone (1996: 635) stated that "Claparede (1870) chose Polynoe astericola as the type species of his new genus Acholoe", but this is not true. Claparede lists both names, with Nereis squamosa listed first, indicating they were naming the same entity - exactly as Hartman stated in her catalogue. [details]
