Spelling Care is needed attributing subsequent usages. Johnston (1827) used the spelling 'littoralis' with a double 'tt'. There may be subsequent misspelling usages with a single 't', which would conflict in homonymy with Lumbricus litoralis Grube 1855 (now Pontodrilus litoralis), and in the other direction Grube's species has also been misspelled with a double "tt". The Hartman catalogue (1959: 332) lists both species correctly. Pontodrilus litoralis is a widely recorded species with many synonyms [details]
Type locality Berwick coast, Scotland. Johnston (1827) gives no location for Lumbricus littoralis, but the other taxa in the article were collected at Berwick. [details]Unreviewed
