Status Pleijel (1998:147) placed Hesiocaeca as incertae sedis as he assessed the type species material as indeterminable fragments. At the same time Hesiocaeca methanicola was described, and has been a widely used name, appearing in numerous studies. Pleijel (1998: 124) had placed that taxon tentatively in his new genus Sirsoe. It should be noted Hesiocaeca is the senior name, the type has an adequate description which can be compared with Sirsoe, and that Desbruyères & Toulmond, 1998 did not agree that a new genus name was necessary.
