Etymology Not stated. The specific epithet quadrioculata is a New Latin adjective meaning 'having four eyes', and refers presumably to the presence of four eyes as a distinctive character of the species: "The head is distinguished from that of its congeners by the presence of four eyes, two of which, however, are rudimentary" (McIntosh, 1885: 177).
