Nomenclature Nereis madreporae pertusa: It is very doubtful if this three word name was a valid scientific name. Madrepora pertusa Linnaeus, 1758 was the name of a coral, now Lophelia pertusa (Linnaeus, 1758). Gunnerus has simply put Nereis in front of the coral name, presumably meaning the Nereis from the coral, and not necessarily naming it, and certainly not intending a subspecies name, which is how it appears in catalogues (Hartman, 1959: 324). Hartman collected the name from Malmgren (1867: 64) where it appears in the synonymy of Leodice norvegica (now Eunice norvegica). Malmgren's reference is to Gunnerus 1768 on p.45-51 of "Act. Nidros." but this appears to be the same source as Det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskab Skrifter. [details]From other sources
