Taxonomy Mörch (1863: 359) gives a very interesting discussion on the confused origins of this taxon! Mörch's discussion is very noteworthy! According to him "Serpula protensa Gmelin" is not a Serpula, but a Teredo or Kuphus. Protula protensa sensu Philippi most probably is the same as P. tubularia (see Mörch 1863: 359). [details]
