Status Technically, since Hentschel (1912) erected this species at the same time as its variety B. m. var. liposphaera, he should also have indicated a typical variety, B. m. var. megalosigma for the present material. [details]
Taxonomy Uriz (1988) recorded this species from the coasts of Namibia and in view of the great distance with Indonesia (the locality of the type) it is more likely that her specimens are assignable to the variety sigmodragma Lévi, 1963 reported from South Africa, than to the typical variety from the Aru islands. Uriz ignored the fact that Lévi assigned his specimens to a distinct variety of Biemna megalosigma. [details]
