Sponge Science in the New Millennium, a self-explanatory title, is the book covering the proceedings of the Sixth International Sponge Conference, held in Rapallo in early October 2002. We dedicate this book to Michele Sarà and Gustavo Pulitzer-Finali, gratefully acknowledging their many years of teaching, which introduced us and several other Italian researchers to the fascinating world of spongiology.
In preparing this book, we continued the team work that enabled us to achieve such good results in organizing the conference. Thus, four editors and an assistant took part in this work.
