Taxonomy Olga Sheiko of the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg pointed out that Thenea abyssorum was originally named Thenea muricata abyssorum by Koltun (1959), but without description or figures this is a nomen nudum. Later, Koltun, 1964a provided a description and raised this to specific status. Authorship and date is taken from the latter reference in accordance with the ICZN rules. [details]
