Taxonomy Nardo (1847) apparently changed his older name Rayneria (also a nomen nudum) into Reniera without explanation. His definition of the genus is unrecognizable, and thus the genus is considered a nomen nudum. He mentioned several species name combinations (R. typica, R.flava, R. forcellata, R. variabilis, R. atra), but these were likewise nomina nuda. In the absence of remaining specimens, the genus name Reniera receives the authorship of Schmidt (1862), who described several species recognizably and left type specimens. One of the species, R. aquaductus Schmidt, 1862 has been idicated subsequently as the type species. [details]
