Taxonomy Burton (1931) assigned his material to Lamarck's (1815) Alcyonium junceum, recorded from Madagascar, based on a presumed type specimen BMNH 1954.2.20.85. Hooper (1996: 174) doubts the type status of this specimen and assigned the species name to Burton. Topsent (1933) in his revision of the Lamarck collection reports the type of Alcyonium junceum missing from the Paris Museum Lamarck collection, but suggests that it could be a synonym or variety of Alcyonium opuntioides Lamarck (= Antho (Antho) opuntioides). Type species This is the type species of Labacea de Laubenfels, 1936, which is a junior synonym of Clathria (Clathria). [details]
