Validity The erection of the genus Inframacrostomum by Ferguson (1954), was immediately rejected by Papi (1959) and Ax (1959), and further supported by Schmidt & Sopott-Ehlers (1976), Faubel et al. (1994), Schärer et al. (2011), and Schockaert (2014). Since the name has still sometimes appeared, it was again clarified by Brand et al. (2022) that Inframacrostomum is a synonym of Macrostomum.
