Validity Originally named as a subspecies Macrostomum appendiculatum forma brasiliensis Marcus, 1952 , this was later raised to species and moved to Archimacrostomum brasiliense (Marcus, 1952) by Ferguson (1954) . Given the issues with Archimacrostomum (see notes there), it is now referred to as Macrostomum brasiliense, as suggested by Zhang et al. 2021 and Brand et al . [details]
