Taxonomy Hafeezullah ( 1979) erected the genus Karyakartia (also spelled Haryakartia) for Acanthostomum (Gymnatotrema [sic])pambanense Karyakarte, 1968, from Therapon spp. off the coast of India. He claimed that the genus belonged to the Enenteridae, but the pre~nce of an external seminal vesicle indicates that it is probably a lepocreadiid. It is possibly congeneric or even conspecific with Godavaritrema marina Karyakarte and Yadav, 1976, and Enenterum theraponii Zaidi and Khan, 1977, although the latter is said to have an unarmed surface and no mention is made of an external seminal vesicle.

Taxonomy Enenterum theraponii appeared to Gibson and Bray (1982) to be a possible synonym of Karyakartia pambanense (Karyakarte, 1968). This latter species, originally described by Karyakarte (1968) as Acanthostomum (Gymnatrema) pambanense from Therapon puta at Pamban Island, Madras State, India, was redescribed and placed in the new genus Karyakartia by Hafeezullah (1979), who found specimens in Therapon jarbua in the Bay of Bengal (Machilipatnam). Karyakartia was placed in the subfamily Enenterinae by Hafeezullah, but Gibson and Bray (1982) pointed out that the presence of an external seminal vesicle probably indicates that it is a lepocreadiid.
