Two species of Fimbriosthenelais Pettibone, 1971, F. longipinnis (Grube, 1870) and Fimbriosthenelais andamanensis n. sp. are described from the Andaman Sea, southwestern Thailand. The samples were collected during the Thai–Danish BIOSHELF Project in 1996–2000. Fimbriosthenelais longipinnis (Grube,1870) differs from Fimbriosthenelais andamanensis n. sp. by having the microtubercles on the elytral surface confined chiefly to anterior and medial areas, whereas in the latter species the entire elytral surface is covered with globular microtubercles. A table of characters for species of the genus is given
