Editor's comment Referred to serpulidae by Pilsbry & Sharp, followed by Steiner & Kabat. However, Schröter's original (not binomial) description upon which Gmelin's taxon was based, explicitly refers to a non calcareous (not reactive to acid), fully transparent tube, inhabited by a "nereid". It is an unidentified polychaete inhabiting a horny tube. [details]
