This paper discusses the classification, characteristics, and geologic range of the fusulinid genus Palaeofusulina. Thirty-nine known species and subspecies referred to this genus are grouped into three types, each of which is treated as a genus. The first type, represented by Palaeofusulina prisca Deprat, the type species of Palaeofusulina, in Palaeofusulina s. str.; the other two are described as new genera, Nanlingella and Parananlingella. Palaeofusulina arose at the beginning of the Changhsingian of latest Permian age, flourished during the middle and late Changhsingian, and became extinct at the end of the Changhsingian. It is a short-ranging genus restricted to the Changhsingian which is referred to as the fusulinid faunal zone of Palaeofusulina. This zone is the highest fusulinid zone in the world.
